ADVISORY BOARD
An Elite Group of Experts
Octoshape was founded by algorithm experts,
and its advisory board consists of algorithm experts.
Algorithms are a mathematical theoretical discipline within Information Technology (IT) that involves
proving the asymptotic complexity of computation problems.
As the measurement of improvement is very clear, the competition is sharp and only a select group
of a few hundred people attend leading conferences, such as STOC, FOCS,
and SODA. Researchers from this academic society have included the founders and
executives of companies like Akamai and Google.
Google gave the world powerful searching, Akamai gave the world fast downloads.
Octoshape wants to give the world efficient streaming—to deliver high-quality entertainment with almost no distribution costs.
Robert E. Tarjan – the Grand Man of IT
There is no Nobel prize for computer science.
Instead, there is the Turing award, and Robert E. Tarjan has, of course, received it.
His influence has been so far-reaching that every PC on the market includes his algorithms.
Tarjan has held positions at Stanford and Berkeley University and is currently Princeton Professor
and HP Senior Fellow. In addition, he has held a number of industry positions including chief scientist
at InterTrust and senior research fellow at STAR Labs where,
among other things, he helped develop DRM technology.
Tarjan has also authored hundreds of breakthrough scientific papers and served as PhD advisor
for Monika Henzinger, who is currently Research and Developer director at Google.
Arne Andersson – a Leading Expert on Algorithm Design and Start-ups
As chairman for computer science at Lund and Uppsala Universities and founder and CEO of Trade Extension,
one of Sweden’s most successful IT start-ups,
Arne Andersson has built up a broad and deep knowledge of algorithms and start-ups.
Andersson has published a number of papers about efficient algorithms in the highest
ranked scientific journals and at the foremost conferences.
He also has an outstanding record in managing projects on an international level in both the academic and private sectors.
Mikkel Thorup – Irrepressible Mathematical Genius
Thorup has repeatedly surprised the IT research society with efficient solutions for problems thought
to be impossible Examples stem from a broad array of fields,
including bioinformatics, sorting, and chip design.
In his main area of focus, network optimization,
Thorup has contributed many papers to the highest ranked journals,
filed patents, and held various positions as editor and chairman.
He is currently a research fellow at AT&T’s Internet Research Lab.
If you have a question about network optimization, Thorup is your man.
